4 Benefits of Using Recycled Wood Pallets

The Pallet Pro Team

If you’re looking for a wood pallet that’s strong, clean, built to accurate dimensions and looks great, a new pallet is worth considering.

But be advised - it’s going to cost you a pretty penny.   Look, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with new pallets. In fact, there will be times when only a new pallet will do.   But a lot of Orlando businesses just need a pallet that’ll allow them to ship their product without breaking. In those situations, recycled pallets fit the bill perfectly.   Let’s break down 4 big benefits of using recycled pallets to see if they’re right for your operation.

1. Significant cost savings

Because they’re made from used wood, recycled pallets can save you as much as 50% over new pallets.   Whether your warehouse uses 100 pallets a month or 1000 or more, switching just half of the pallets you use from new to recycled can generate substantial savings over the course of a year.

2. Similar weight capacity to new pallets

You might think that recycled pallets aren’t as strong as new pallets. But even though they can look pretty worn and weathered, in most situations recycled pallets can hold around the same amount of weight as new pallets as long as they’re repaired properly.

3. Shorter lead times

It’s easier and faster to repair a pallet than to build a new one. Because recycled pallets are already built, your order turnaround time will be shorter than with new pallets.

4. Better for the environment

Using recycled pallets means consuming fewer trees and less pallets thrown into landfills. According to this carbon calculator , for every ton of wood pallets recycled each month, 1.48 metric tons of carbon dioxide is prevented from entering the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of 5 cars being taken off the road!     --------------

I had a call with a client the other day who asked for a quote on 48x40 A-grade recycled pallets. Standard request. I gave him the price, and he was BEYOND thrilled.

Just because a pallet works for one business doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for yours. Thinking all pallets are the same is like saying all shoes are the same. Sure, they all do the basic job, but you wouldn't wear flip-flops to run a marathon, would you? I’m here to tell you that if you don’t know the details of how you’re using your pallets, you might be throwing money down the drain - or worse, screwing up your operations.

Have you ever looked at how much you’re spending on pallets and said to yourself, “They’re just wood and nails. How can they possibly cost that much?!?”

Are you buying pallets made of new wood? If you are, I bet you’ll agree with me when I say pallet costs add up FAST. While each pallet you’re buying probably costs around $15-35, when you’re getting them by the hundreds or thousands each month the costs really make a dent in your bottom line.
