A vs. B Grade: What’s the Difference?
List of Services
-
A Grade 48x40 Wood PalletsItem Link List Item 1
These are your cleaner, more consistent pallets. Minimal repairs, no companion stringers or blocks, and mostly uniform deck boards. If you’re shipping to clients or care about presentation, A Grade is your best bet.
“The A Grade pallets we’re receiving from The Pallet Pro blow their competition out of the water. Clean, damage-free, no hazardous and pesky nails sticking out. A+ service and product.” — Brittany B.
-
B Grade 48x40 Wood PalletsItem Link List Item 2
Same size, lower price — with more signs of wear and more visible repairs. These are your workhorse pallets for internal use, stacking inventory, or shipping where appearance isn’t a priority. Still sturdy. Still reliable. Just less polished.

Why 48x40 Is the Go-To Size
48x40 pallets are the standard across North America — most racking systems, forklifts, and freight carriers are designed for them. It’s the size you’ll see in most warehouses and distribution centers, and the most commonly requested pallet we deliver.
Unless you’re working with something oversized or unusually shaped, 48x40 is probably what you’re after.
Need a different size? We also build custom wood pallets to match your specs — ideal for equipment, products, or racking that doesn't play nice with standard 48x40s.
FAQ: 48x40 Wood Pallets
What are 48x40 pallets used for?
48x40 pallets are the most common size used in North American warehouses, distribution centers, and freight shipping. They’re a standard fit for racking, forklifts, and most supply chains — especially in food, retail, and manufacturing.
What’s the difference between A Grade and B Grade 48x40 pallets?
A-Grade pallets are cleaner and more consistent — fewer repairs, more uniform deck boards. B-Grade pallets show more wear but still work just fine. If appearance matters, go with A-Grade. If you're just moving product internally, B-Grade is a solid budget option.
What are the benefits of using recycled 48x40 pallets instead of new ones?
Recycled wood pallets are a smart choice for most businesses. They're significantly more affordable than new pallets, better for the environment, and often perform just as well for general warehouse use. If you don’t need a pristine one-time-use pallet, recycled is the way to go.
Are recycled 48x40 pallets built to GMA spec?
Most new 48x40 pallets are built to GMA spec, especially if requested. Recycled pallets (like A and B-Grade) are the same size, but may not meet every detail of the GMA specification due to repairs or variation in construction.
If you need true GMA-spec pallets, just let us know and we’ll make sure you get the right fit.
What’s the difference between block-style and stringer-style pallets?
Both can come in a 48x40 size, but they’re built differently.
- Stringer pallets are the most common — they usually have three (sometimes four) wood runners (“stringers”) supporting the deck boards.
- Block pallets use nine blocks for support, usually with a full-perimeter base. They're sturdier but heavier and more expensive.
Most recycled 48x40 pallets are stringer-style. If you need block pallets for a specific setup, let us know — we can build or source them.
What’s the difference between 2-way and 4-way forklift access?
- 2-way pallets can only be lifted from two sides (front and back)
- 4-way pallets can be lifted from all four sides
Most 48x40 pallets are 4-way accessible by forklift and 2-way by pallet jack — just let us know what equipment you’re using and we’ll make sure the pallets are compatible
Can recycled 48x40 pallets be heat-treated for export?
Yes — recycled 48x40 pallets can be heat-treated and stamped to meet ISPM-15 export requirements. Learn more about our heat-treated wood pallets here.
Do you offer delivery or drop trailers?
Yes! We deliver throughout Central Florida and offer 53’ drop trailer service if you need pallets staged on-site. Just ask when you request a quote.
Can I buy small quantities, or do you only sell by the truckload?
We typically deliver in larger quantities, but we also work with clients who order 50, 100, or a few hundred pallets at a time — especially on a recurring basis. It depends on location, frequency, and availability, so feel free to ask and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
